Elevated Outdoor Design, Grounded in Intention

At Oak and Earth Designs, we believe that everyone deserves to come home to a space that feels like a breath of fresh air.

We design landscapes for people from all walks of life — spaces that reflect who they are, support how they live, and grow with them over time. Whether it's a quiet corner to unwind after a long day, a path that gently welcomes you home, or a yard that invites your kids to explore and play, we approach every design with intention, care, and soul.

We understand that the environment around us shapes more than just our views — it affects our mood, our routines, how we connect with one another, and how we experience home. That’s why our designs are rooted in both beauty and function, blending the natural character of the land with the unique rhythm of your daily life.

Our goal is simple: to create landscapes that feel deeply personal, effortlessly livable, and always a little magical.

Who We Are

Sarah Kim - Co-Founder & Designer, Oak and Earth Designs Company

My love for nature took root when I was a little girl, carried along on my parents’ adventures through national parks and exploring kelp forests along the California coast. I grew up admiring the soft watercolor paintings of Matilija poppies and native wildflowers my grandmother used to create — images that continue to inspire me.

That connection deepened at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where I studied Public Horticulture and began to understand just how profoundly landscapes shape the way we live, move, and feel in our environments.

Over the past decade, I’ve had the joy of designing landscapes for homeowners and public spaces all along California’s coastline. My goal has always been the same: to create spaces that invite people to slow down, take a deep breath, feel inspired, and connect with nature. Spaces that are not only beautiful and functional — but that grow with you over time.

We’d love the chance to create something like that for you.

Thalia Ormsby - Co-Founder & Designer, Oak and Earth Design Company

My connection to plants started early — in homes filled with greenery, outdoor gardens buzzing with life, and parents who taught me to honor the spaces we share with nature. That sense of respect and wonder has stayed with me ever since, shaping not just how I live, but how I design.

Over the past decade, I’ve led meaningful landscape projects that bring people and the natural world closer together. One of the most rewarding was the creation of a monarch way station — a protected piece of land designed to support the migration of monarch butterflies along our coast. What began as a conservation effort has become a beautiful, interactive space where children and families learn about intention, rhythm, and the joy of coexistence with nature.

I’ve also run a thriving school garden for over ten years, producing seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbs that connect students to the earth and to one another — often through the delicious recipes we create together.

As an Olympian, I’ve learned to embrace challenge, think creatively, and stay grounded in purpose — values that flow directly into my design work. Whether it’s a cozy courtyard, a kitchen garden, or a complete landscape renovation, I design spaces that feel alive, intentional, and deeply personal — reflective of the people who call them home.
